Lactation care in network with UnitedHealthcare and UMR

Breastfeed Atlanta accepts UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and UMR for lactation consultations, breastfeeding classes, and insurance breast pumps. We have been in network with UHC for years and we remain in network today. Our own billing team verifies your benefits before your first visit and files every claim directly with your plan.

Told your lactation provider can no longer take UHC? We still do.

Recent UnitedHealthcare billing changes have led some lactation practices to stop accepting UHC plans. Breastfeed Atlanta is a multi-specialty lactation practice, and our care model allows us to continue serving UHC and UMR families without interruption. If your previous provider stopped taking your plan, or you were referred here because of these changes, we are glad to pick up right where you left off. Bring your visit history and we will take it from there.

What UHC and UMR plans cover

The Affordable Care Act requires most health plans to cover lactation support as preventive care, which typically means minimal out-of-pocket cost depending on health coverage. Because every UHC and UMR plan is a little different, our billing team confirms your specific benefits before you come in. You will know exactly where your plan stands before your first appointment, not after.

Insurance breast pumps through UHC and UMR

Breastfeed Atlanta is a UHC-approved distributor of breast pumps and pump supplies, so your pump and your lactation care can come from the same team. Our IBCLCs have advanced pump training and will match you with a pump that fits your body, your schedule, and your feeding goals, then make sure your plan is billed for it correctly.

Prenatal classes and support groups on your plan

Your UHC or UMR plan also covers our breastfeeding classes and support groups. Expecting parents often begin with a prenatal class before the baby arrives, then return for group support through the first months of feeding, all billed through the same plan.

One billing team, in our office, no middleman

Every claim is handled by our in-house billing team. We never route patients through third-party billing networks such as The Lactation Network, so the people verifying your benefits and filing your claims are the same practice providing your care. Questions about a claim get answered by us, not a call center. Details are on our insurance and billing page. Carry Anthem or BCBS instead? See our Anthem and Blue Cross Blue Shield page.

UHC and UMR questions, answered

Is Breastfeed Atlanta still in network with UnitedHealthcare?
Yes. We have been in network with UHC for years and remain in network today. Recent UHC billing changes affected some lactation practices, but as a multi-specialty lactation practice we continue to accept UHC without interruption.
I have UMR. Is that the same as UHC?
UMR is a UnitedHealthcare company that administers many employer-sponsored and self-funded plans. We are in network with UMR, and the process on your end is the same: book your visit and our billing team verifies your benefits before you come in.
My lactation consultant said she can no longer bill UHC. Can you see me instead?
Yes. Families in exactly this situation are welcome here. Book directly, let us know who you were seeing, and bring any visit notes you have so your care continues without starting over.
What will a lactation visit cost me?
Under the Affordable Care Act, most plans cover lactation support as preventive care, often with minimal out-of-pocket cost depending on health coverage. Because plans vary, we verify your benefits before your visit and tell you what your plan covers up front.
Can I get my breast pump through you with UHC or UMR?
Yes. We are a UHC-approved breast pump distributor. Start at our pump store and our team will confirm which pumps and supplies your plan covers.
Do I need a referral from my OB or pediatrician?
No referral is needed. Book directly with us, and after your visit we send a clinical summary to your pediatrician and OB so everyone stays in the loop.
