In‑Home Visits

Lactation consultant home visits in Atlanta

An IBCLC comes to your home for hands‑on feeding support in the early newborn weeks. Home visits are for babies under 1 month old, inside the perimeter and in close northern suburbs. If a home visit isn’t the right fit, the same team sees you at our Sandy Springs center or virtually.

Is a home visit right for you?

Answer three quick questions to see your options.

1. How old is your baby?
Home visits are for babies under 1 month old.

Our home‑visit team is small, so we focus it on the early newborn weeks. You’ll get the same hands‑on, one‑on‑one care at our Sandy Springs center or virtually.

Home visits are for newborns, so you’ll request one after your baby arrives.

In the meantime, a prenatal visit helps you get ready for feeding before baby comes.

2. Where do you live?
Home visits cover inside the perimeter and close northern suburbs.

We keep drive times short so our small home‑visit team can reach new families quickly. If you’re near the edge of that area, text us and we’ll check your address. Otherwise, we’ll see you at our Sandy Springs center or virtually.

3. How will you pay for the visit?
A home visit looks like a good fit.

Most commercial plans cover home visits, and we verify your benefits before the visit. If your plan doesn’t cover it, the cost is $300.

Our team will confirm your address and availability within one business day.

Since you weren’t sure about your area, we’ll check your address first.

Medicaid doesn’t cover home visits.

You can still request a home visit and pay $300 yourself. Or see us at our Sandy Springs center or virtually, which Medicaid covers. We’re in‑network with every Georgia Medicaid CMO.

What happens during a home visit?

  1. Request your visitFill out the short request form. Our team confirms your address and availability within one business day.
  2. Your IBCLC comes to youWe work in the space where you actually feed your baby, on your schedule.
  3. A full feeding assessmentA history review, a hands‑on latch and feeding assessment, and answers to your questions.
  4. A plan you can use right awayYou leave with a personalized plan, and we send a note to your pediatrician and OB so your care team stays informed.

Home visits are staffed by our IBCLCs. If you need a prescription, for example for mastitis, your IBCLC can have one of our nurse practitioners call it in. If something needs an in‑person medical exam, a visit with a nurse practitioner IBCLC at our Sandy Springs center is often the better fit. All of our care is overseen by two board‑certified Medical Directors, including one of only three physicians in Georgia board certified in breastfeeding and lactation medicine (NABBLM‑C).

Does insurance cover a home visit?

We can bill most commercial insurance plans for home visits, and our in‑house billing team verifies your benefits before your visit. If your plan doesn’t cover it, or you choose to self‑pay, the cost is $300.

Home visits aren’t billable to Medicaid. If you have Medicaid, you can self‑pay for a home visit, or see us at our Sandy Springs center or virtually, which Medicaid covers. See our insurance and billing page for details.

Prefer an office or virtual visit?

Most families see us at our Sandy Springs center or virtually. You get the same clinical team, broader insurance coverage including Medicaid, and our full multi‑specialty team, including nurse practitioner IBCLCs who can evaluate and prescribe in the same visit.
