Lactation consultant in Atlanta
An in-office lactation visit pairs you with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) at our breastfeeding center: a full feeding evaluation, a weighted feed, and a personalized plan. Our team includes nurse practitioner IBCLCs with physician oversight, we accept most insurance and every Georgia Medicaid CMO, and no referral is needed.
What to expect during your visit
A comprehensive, one-on-one evaluation built around your situation. Here is how it goes.
- 1Feeding and medical historyYour IBCLC takes a full feeding and medical history to understand what is going on.
- 2Observe a feedWe watch your baby feed and evaluate latch and feeding mechanics.
- 3Weighted feedWe weigh your baby before and after feeding to measure exactly how much milk transfers.
- 4Your personalized planYou get accurate, evidence-based guidance and a plan built for you and your baby.
- 5Follow-up bookedWhen a follow-up makes sense, we usually schedule it during your visit, so you leave with the next appointment in place.
- 6Note to your care teamWe send a report to your pediatrician and OB or midwife so everyone stays informed.
Signs it's time to come in
There is no concern too big or too small. Families commonly book an office visit when:
- You feel unsure or uneasy about breastfeeding
- Your baby is having trouble latching
- You're concerned about milk supply, low or oversupply
- You're experiencing pain while breastfeeding
- Your baby has slow or low weight gain
- You've been told you may need to supplement
- You've gotten conflicting advice and want a clear plan

Why families choose Breastfeed Atlanta
- Every visit is with an IBCLC. Our credentialed clinical team includes nurse practitioner IBCLCs who can evaluate, treat, and prescribe when clinically appropriate, so medical and lactation care happen in one visit.
- Physician oversight. Two board-certified Medical Directors oversee care, including a pediatrician who is one of only three physicians in Georgia with NABBLM-C board certification in breastfeeding and lactation medicine.
- A real breastfeeding center. Our Sandy Springs (Glenridge) location is a freestanding, 3,600-square-foot breastfeeding center and clinic, with a second location in Roswell.
- Insurance handled for you. We are in network with most commercial plans and every Georgia Medicaid CMO, and our in-house billing team verifies your benefits and files claims directly. Most families pay nothing out of pocket.
- Care coordination. We send clinical notes to your pediatrician and OB after each visit, working as part of your perinatal care team.
Insurance and cost
In-office lactation visits are covered as preventive care under most commercial insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, UMR, Humana, and Ambetter, often with no out-of-pocket cost. We are also a lactation consultant that takes Medicaid, accepting every Georgia Medicaid CMO. Our in-house billing team verifies your specific benefits before your visit.
Prefer to be seen at home or virtually?
Along with office visits, we offer virtual visits across Atlanta with the same clinical team, covered by insurance the same way an office visit is. Home visits are also available on a limited basis, for newborns under two weeks old inside our service area. Choose whichever fits your situation best.
