All Newborn Clinic Visits are now in our new Glenridge office.
Mission Statement
The Newborn Clinic at Breastfeed Atlanta aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality in vulnerable groups by optimizing healthcare, starting at birth. Our multidisciplinary team of advanced practice nurses, lactation consultants, and doctors work collaboratively to center mothers and babies in care and meet their needs in the first weeks of life. We are passionate about improving outcomes by increasing access to healthcare, extensive health screening and referral services for mothers, and inclusive feeding support. We are proud to provide care to all families who seek our services, regardless of their parenting decisions, family structure, or ability to pay.
What to Expect
At a Newborn Clinic visit our providers care for mothers and babies following discharge from the hospital, screening mothers for common postpartum complications, and diagnosing and treating neonatal complications. This clinic is designed to provide immediate care to families who have not yet established care with a pediatrician. We are not a pediatric practice and this appointment is not intended to take the place of an newborn well-check. Our providers will assist families to locate and transition to their longterm pediatric provider. During a Newborn Clinic appointment, families can expect:
an infant exam to assess any concerns or complications, including jaundice and weight loss
feeding support to promote breastfeeding when possible and desired by the family, and safe formula feeding when appropriate
a brief maternal exam to screen for common postpartum concerns
assistance obtaining a breast pump covered by insurance
education, support, and additional resources for new parents
